Safeguarding & Risk Management
John Blackburn Behaviour and Training is committed to identifying and managing risks to ensure the welfare of clients, dogs, and the trainer. This professional statement outlines our procedural protocols for risk assessment and the ethical safeguarding of all participants.
Risk Assessment Protocols
We utilise a structured risk assessment framework for every client and dog:
- Full behavioural history review before the initial consultation.
- Site surveys to identify potential environmental hazards.
- Equipment checks to ensure lead and collar integrity.
- Monitoring of handler capabilities to ensure safe physical control.
Priority Note: Bite History Disclosure
The owner is legally responsible for their dog's actions at all times. Any history of aggression, biting, or near-misses must be disclosed during the enquiry. We reserve the right to mandate muzzle-use or terminate sessions if safety thresholds are not maintained.
Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups
Our training sessions comply with professional safeguarding standards to protect children and vulnerable adults. We ensure that:
- Minors are never left unattended with training dogs.
- Guardians are present for all sessions involving residents under the age of 18.
- Training methods prioritise humane interaction and psychological safety.
